Project One: See it Clearly
August 24, 2013
Project One – See it clearly was a project developed by young people from Slough who responded to a brief set by The Arts Excite and South Bucks and East Berkshire Women’s Aid.
The aim of the project was for the young people to produce a resource that that SBEB Women’s Aid could use as part of their outreach work with children and young people in the region. They wanted something that could be used to educate young people as to the signs of domestic abuse as well as how they could get help for themselves or any other young person facing this issue in their lives.
After some debate and discussion the young people on this project decided they wanted to respond to the brief by producing a short film, which could be shown on YouTube and reach a wide audience. In order for them to gain the skills to create something like this they identified that they would need to work with a drama practitioner and a film practitioner.
The young people spent seven days over the summer working on their film. The Arts Excite was able to tie in Arts Award Bronze to this project which gave the young people a chance to achieve a nationally recognised qualification for taking part in the project and giving something back to the community. As part of their Arts Award we took them to see a theatre performance called take a deep breath and breath. After the show The Arts Excite arranged for them to meet with the cast and director and ask them questions, in order to gain a deeper understanding of the process professional performers go through in order to put on a show.
